Creative therapy is a neuro-affirming form of care that combines the creative process with psychotherapeutic principles. It offers a supportive environment for individuals to explore and develop new ways to express their thoughts, emotions, and experiences both verbally and non-verbally. Engaging in creative processes helps you uncover and express thoughts and feelings that may be difficult to articulate verbally.
Creative therapy focuses on the process of creation rather than the final product. It uses multimodal activities such as movement, music, clay, sand, play, art and crafts to support self-exploration and reveal personal insights. It is also very relaxing and great way to regulate your nervous system, providing excellent mental health benefits.
Creative therapy has been traditionally used to express emotions, empower personal growth, build emotional resilience, nurture our wellbeing, learn mindfulness strategies and connect with community.
Sarah works from her home studio situated on a farm in beautiful Pipers River region of lutruwita/Tasmania.
A typical individual session would begin with a mindfulness practice to settle into the shared space. This would be followed by a discussion of materials that the client feels drawn to engage with.
During the process of exploring and experimenting with the chosen materials, Sarah may prompt some discussion, as well as taking notes and working alongside the client.
This provides the opportunity to work through challenges that the client may be dealing with.
The session will typically close with another brief mindfulness practice and a chance to reflect on the session. Most sessions are an hour in duration, although Sarah is very happy to work with the requirements of individual clients.
